Els van Lavieren of MPC (Moroccan Primate Conservation Foundation) has worked in Morocco on the protection of the endangered Barbary macaque since 2003. The Barbary macaque is threatened by habitat destruction, climate change and the illegal trade in infants. Together with international organisations, Els aims at putting a halt to the illegal trade and the better protection of the last refuge where the species exists: the cedar forest in the Middle Atlas.(www.mpcfoundation.nl)
